WHO AM I?
John Michael Hird
Born in Lincolnshire, John began playing the Violin at the age of 8. By fourteen he was awarded a county talented musician scholarship. Leading most youth ensembles within the county, he was then given a scholarship to study at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. Switching to Viola at age 20, John then went to study with Vicci Wardman at the Royal Northern College of Music as a Albert and Eugenie Frost Trust Scholar. As a string player, John has played for some of the worlds leading performers and pedagogues some including; Maxim Rysanov, Roger Chase, Thomas Reibl, Robin Ireland, Susanne Stanzeleit, Rose Redgrave, Sophie Renshaw, Zoe Beyers, Pavel Fischer, Martin Outram, Lucy Russell and Blazej Maliszewski.
John's interests in historical playing from the Renaissance and baroque eras have also allowed him the opourtunity of working with Early Music Specialists such as Martin Perkins, Kate Fawcett, Annette Isserlis and Margaret Faultless.
Professionally as a Violist, John enjoys a career not only as a teacher, but also as a freelance Violist with some of the UK's finest Orchestras; The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, The Halle, Opera North, British Sinfonietta, The London Mozart Players and the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

John also has a strong background in multiple musical styles including Jazz, having multiple times, Won Music for Youth as part of 'Jazz Vehicle' playing the saxophone, a Big Band from the Lincolnshire area.

As a Teacher, John has over 15 years of experience teaching every ability, from new beginner to grade 8 and above.
